　　安徽黄山地区叫它“四不象”，或者“天马”等等，如此多而混乱的俗名，或多或少地反映出它外貌特征的奇特，似乎与驴、骡、羊、牛、羚、马等众多常见的食草动物都有些相像，但又都不太像，实在令人称奇。它的体长为140—190厘米，尾长9—16厘米，肩高86—110厘米，体重100—140千克，雄兽和雌兽之间的大小差别不显著。体形较大，头形狭长，四肢粗壮，强健有力，蹄短而坚实。被毛稀疏而粗硬，吻端裸露，唇的周围有髭毛，有明显的球囊状眶下腺，其开口处有一撮丛毛。两只耳朵特别狭长，可达19—21厘米，端部较尖，很像驴的耳朵。雄兽和雌兽均有短角，介于两耳之间，距离较远，形状较为简单，两角自额骨的后部长出后，平行而稍呈弧形往后伸展，角的横切面呈圆形，末端较尖，角的表面具有环状的棱及不规则的纵行沟纹，角尖处较为光滑，长度为20—26厘米，粗13一16厘米，最长的纪录得自喜马拉雅山地区，为32.4厘米。鼠鼷部具2对乳头。身体的毛色较深，以黑色为主，杂有灰褐色毛，毛基为灰白色或白色。暗黑色的脊纹贯穿整个脊背。上下嘴唇、颌部污白色或灰白色。前额、耳背沾有深浅不一的棕色。头后自角的基部到颈背的鬣或鬃毛很长，为白色或灰白色，也有的杂以棕色、黑色，长度约为15—20厘米，由颈部下披，成为其最为显著的特征。四肢的毛为赤褐色，向下转为黄褐色。尾巴不长，与身体的色调相同。　　 <div class="titord"><span class="arr"><a title="返回页首" href="https://baike.baidu.com/view/92196.htm#"></a></span><span class="t1"><a name="3"></a><strong>分布与生境</strong></span></div>　　鬣羚是亚洲东南部热带、**带地区的典型动物之一，但也逐步北移到北纬33度左右的地区，分布范围北起我国西北的秦岭和青海的湟水河谷一带，南至印度尼西亚的苏门答腊，包括我国南方的大部分地区和尼泊尔、克什米尔、印度、越南、缅甸、泰国、马来西亚等地。

　　鬣羚主要栖息在海拔600—3000米的高山森林地带，最高可达海拔4000米以上，偶尔也到草原活动，生境有两个突出特点，一个是树林、竹林或灌丛十分茂密，另一个是地势非常险峻。　　 <div class="titord"><span class="arr"><a title="返回页首" href="https://baike.baidu.com/view/92196.htm#"></a></span><span class="t1"><a name="4"></a><strong>生活习性</strong></span></div>　　它的性情比较孤独，除了雄兽总是单独活动以外，雌兽和幼仔也最多结成4—5只的小群，从不见较大的群体。早晨和傍晚出来在林中空地、林缘或沟谷一带摄食、饮水，主要以青草、树木嫩枝、叶、芽、落果和菌类、松萝等为食。夏季喜在大树下、灌丛中及巨岩间等僻静之处休息；冬季常到岩洞中避风、过夜。有较为固定的往来觅食的小路、休息场所及排粪地点，平时或出没于悬崖绝壁之间，或隐身于密林之中。每个个体或小群都占有一定的领域，由于具有发达的眶下腺和蹄腺，可以用其分泌物在栖居范围边缘的树木或灌丛上作领地的标记。极为善于攀登和纵跃，能在最陡峭的悬岩绝壁之间行动自如，或在乱石溪谷之间跳跃如飞。这是因为它的蹄子是由两个紧密靠在一起的蹄组成，前端窄尖，后端宽阔，四周环以角质，中央为柔软的部分组成，就像一个吸盘，使其能够稳稳地站立或跳跃在陡岩之上。此外，在它的四肢底部还具有灵敏的外周感受器。在活动时，蹄子接受底部的刺激后，感受器可以将其转换为一种信号，传递给中枢神经系统，中枢神经系统又把接受到的信号转换成控制信号，再传递给四肢上的各种不同的肌肉组，从而调节身体重心的平衡。在受到惊扰时，它能沟迅速奔跑，跳过险恶乱石，攀登到悬崖峭壁之上躲避敌害，逃脱之后便不会再返回。在**迫得无路可逃的时候，就用两只后蹄支起身体，直立起来，腾出两只前蹄拼命地往岩石上敲击，发出“嘎嘎”的脆响，或者是往肚皮上象擂鼓一样地“咚咚”敲打，声音响彻寂静的山谷，借以威吓敌害。如果这一招不灵，也会奋起自卫，勇猛地用角进行坚决的反扑，攻击对手。成年的雄兽性情较为凶猛，体强力壮，常常能冲出天敌的包围，或战胜体形不算太大的对手，将其顶到悬崖之下。　　 <div class="titord"><span class="arr"><a title="返回页首" href="https://baike.baidu.com/view/92196.htm#"></a></span><span class="t1"><a name="5"></a><strong>繁殖习性</strong></span></div>　　鬣羚每年繁殖一次，在秋季的9—10月发情交配，逐偶时雄兽之间也有激烈的恶斗，获胜的一方才能与雌**配，败者有时甚至会被顶死。雌兽的怀孕期约为8个月，幼仔多半于翌年5月下旬至6月初出生，每胎产1—2仔。幼仔2—3岁时性成熟，但2岁时仍然跟随雌兽一起生活，3岁才开始独立活动。寿命约15年。　　<b>
